Sally, RN of Massachusetts Writes:

Dear Anneliese,
Got my results in exactly 10 days. I was an RN in England 20 years ago.... and took my LPN 2 years ago. as i was afraid to jump straight into the RN. as I hate exams! passed the LPN. it shut of after 85. I was convinced that I had failed! I have little faith in myself I guess! Everyone convinced me to do the RN.. and I wanted to do it more for personal satisfaction really. I am a single mom with 3 kids.... so couldnt afford to do a refresher course.... and work as a case manager 3 days a week.... with not much hands on as far as patients are concerned. I set my self a plan of studying in the evening .. using NCLEX RN study guide 3rd edition, a brilliant computer disc.... with all sorts of options. i did 75 questions a night. sometimes double that. and really enjoyed it. I guess i averaged 75% correct most of the time. i stopped doing it when I had done most of the 2000 questions. the other book i used was NSNA nclex review. again with a disc. just kept on plugging away, until i felt ready!I studied most evenings for 2 hours for 2 months.
Then came the big day..... I got hopelessly lost, and even bribed a policeman to give me an escort to the site!. he wasnt much help and even got me more lost.... but I eventually made it with minutes to spare!
I ploughed through the questions.... shaking my head at some of them! I was asked 2 questions about different types of incontinence, stress and urge! Skeletal traction. 2 questions about hypercalcemia.HIV. how to prioritise in a disaster. Care of a catheter after a turp... How to prevent a headache after a lumbar puncture.. The normal urinary output of an adult in 24 hours was the only calculation. I had no obstetrics. first sign of oesophageal atresia an a newborn.. came up too. Ther were a few psyche. and whats the best toy for an 8 year old kid with RA, on bedrest NO pharmacology questions ! I was surprised.... and no calculations!. it shut off after 75.... all I could think about was the ones I knew I got wrong, and was convinced I had failed.
I got the mail yesterday. 10 days later and passed. Thanks Anneliese for your support, and I think your site is fantastic. Good luck to all you folks out there! I guess its safety and common sense..... with a few prayers thrown in too!!
Love Sally RN!!!!!!

Dear Anneliese,
Thanks for replying to my note. I am proud to say that I passed my boards the second time around. I passed in Feb. and I am working as a RN at Children's Hospital in New Orleans. I hope the information you passed along to me can help someone else, since I no longer need to worry about passing boards. Again, thank you very much for replying to my note, keep in touch.

Cindi,RN of Florida Writes:

Dear Anneliese,
just a happy note to tell you that I PASSED the boards in 75?s, You might remember me I recently wrote to you very down and discouraged, feeling very stressed over retaking the test, I failed the first time in 265?'s I was not at all prepared, I thought the test would be a piece of cake , like tests in school. But I was very wrong, you must have respect for this test....This time I studied hard, I used Kaplans 99-2000 nclex review, it is fantastic, it doesn't overload you with facts , that you will forget, it teaches you how to break down the questions, I also combined that with the Princeton review, it has a great overall review, easy to follow.I knew I was going to pass this test as I was taking it, the questions were difficult but manageable I felt very comfortable . I am no longer discouraged, I feel the weight of the world has been lifted..Thank You for such a wonderful website, you are a true inspiration, and a true nurse..because you offer hope to nervous future nurses..Love Cindi RN :)

Lisa,RN of New Jersey Writes:

Dear Anneliese,
I PASSED. Thanks for the words of encouragement and advice. I've told others about your site. Please let people know about the Kaplan NCLEX Review, it's the BEST. After taking the review and reviewing all the supplement information, I had a better understanding of the questions. I still can not believe it. Keep up the good work.

Staci Phelps,RN of Dallas Texas Writes:

Dear Anneliese,
I do not know if you remember me, but I e-mailed a few months or so ago. I was the one who had just graduated and was getting married, going on a honeymoon, and moving to Dallas before I took my boards. Well, I got married 1/16 and was back from my honeymoon and somewhat moved in by the 23 of January. I took my boards on jan. 26 at 12:30. The night before, I had to go to the Doctor because I had some sort of URI. Well, I am a success story. After 80 questions of mostly Med-Surg, a few psych and OB, and some pedi., I found out I passed. I was so excited. I did everything you are not supposed to do before the boards, but I passed. I got the Lippincott review book you suggested and it really helped. Hopefully, I am encouragement to those who feel they have too much going on to pass. I had a friend who did not pass who had only 75 questions, so it really doesn't matter how many questions you take, you just can't tell. Most people say if you only took 75, you passed and it isn't true. So, I recommend the lippincott book and the springhouse book. The springhouse book has only a few exam questions, but it gives you a review of all the areas. I read the reviews and clinical situations and when I felt confident with the material, I took the tests in Lippincott. Those really helped. That is all I did.

Kathy Behe,RN of Maryland Writes:

Anneliese: I was scared myself & when I found out I passed I knew God was looking out for me. I am in total shock because when you answer that many questions, 262, it means that you are borderline. That is what I have been told.

What helped me ---
Reviewing & reading all of my notes from school.
Getting tutored once per week.
Listening to Examco audiotapes.
Answering NCLEX questions only during tutoring session [I answered 6,000 questions for the 1st test & it didn't help me, so my attitude is ... why bother?
Praying to St. Jude, God, Jesus, my dead grandmother, you name it ...
Going to the dr & getting prescriptions for Inderal & Ativan & taking both of these drugs for one week prior to the test & of course, taking them both right before the exam.
Anneliese!~ of course!~

McCants of Idaho Writes:

Hi there, we are having some problems with our server, so I am not sure if these message will get through. Well, I passed boards!!!! The computer stopped at 75 questions and before I pressed enter I said a prayer, and yes prayer does work. Thank you for all of your Nclex advice. I followed your tips and tips from others out there in cyber world. To all of you I also would like to say thank you. Thanx again Anneliese."Stuck in Idaho."

Rich Bissell of Massachusetts Writes:

Hey, I passed!

I was very surprised because it ended at 75 and I did not think the questions got very difficult (as I E-Mailed you previously). So, I guess you can tell others that you never really know. They did ask me one question on continuous N/G Drainage, one on Antibiotics, and also one on Blood Chemestry seen with dehydration. I thought there would be more questions on blood gasses, specific med side effects, chest tubes, and vents. Instead, it was a lot of Psych and post op. There was one question on Cardiac Cath (positioning during and after). So anyway, thanks for your help and keep on helping those who have NCLEX anxiety.

I studied, for about three months for the exam. The reason I studied so much is that I graduated from Regents external degree program for LPN's. I have been an LPN for 7 years. The Regents College Program is for LPN's and therapists who can not attend school but are willing to study on their own time and take exams to show competance. There is also a weekend Clinical exam which is taken in the hospital which is very difficult to pass. Since I did not go through a typical program I was worried about the boards so I put in extra study time. I used The Princeton review which has 2000 questions on computer disk and a large study guide, and also the Kaplin review which has 265 questions--study guide is not very good but answers to questions have extensive rationales. These two study guides work well together.

Thanks again

Rich

HELLO ANNELIESE!!!
I just found out today that I passed the NCLEX!!!! I am now a Registered Nurse. This is a relief. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I am from Baltimore, MD. I have a job waiting for me in one of the local hospitals so it was imperative that I pass this first time. If I didn't I probably would have lost this position. Now I am happy to say you can add me to your congratulations page. I'll keep in touch and let you know how my new job goes. Talk to ya later!

Jennifer Richardson,RN of Tennessee Writes:

Thanx for the reply. I took my boards about 3 weeks ago..and passed. I went to 265..boy was I in a state of panic until my results came. The boards that everyone, including me, are taking this time have lots of Peds and Ob. I had no heart, a few colostomys, but mainly Ob and Peds. I didn't have very many drugs....just the basic ones that most people know off the top of their head. There was NO studying for the NCLEX...either you know it or you don't. Thanx for replying.....thought you might want to know that everyone is getting lots and lots of Peds and Ob.

~~CONGRATULATIONS!~~

Just wanted to give encouragement to all those that are fixing to take the test and all that are waiting on their results --- GOOD LUCK & HAVE FAITH!!! By the way, keep up the good work -- you are an inspiration to many! See ya!
