I Kiss The Flag by Anneliese Garrison, RN

I went to your grave site again today.
I saw your flag straight, tall and with the wind, it waved.

Blue is for the courage that you lived and taught me.
With one star for all the hardships you helped me through.

White is for all the caring and sharing that you lived and taught me.

Red is for the color of your favorite flower
as I kneel down to give you a rose.

If tears could build a path
I'd walk all the way to Heaven
and bring you back.

But God had a Son that He once lost too
and there He was standing next to you.

I cry again and close my eyes.
You hug me and kiss me and
reassure me you are fine.

So here I stand, with wonderful memories of you.
Sometimes sad that God has taken me from you.
But I know this is just a place to remember you.

I can talk to you any time I want.
I just close my eyes and you are here with me
right next to my heart.

And so I kiss the flag as I remember you.
I'll live out my life, the way you taught me to.
