Angel of Mine by Anneliese Garrison, RN

I feel the softness of your skin against mine
I feel the beating of your little heart in the palm of my hands
And I cry.

You grasp my finger with your tiny little hand.
"I'll never forsake you," I whisper.
And I cry.

I look at the innocence of your deep blue eyes.
"I love you," I whisper as I rock you gently,
I watch you quietly sleep.
And I cry.

I look at you and want you to understand
I want to give you all the love
I want to give you all the support
I want to give you all the wisdom,
That any mother would give a child.
That unconditional love that I myself never had.
And I cry.

I hug you. I touch you and I thank my God
for life's most precious gift.
And I cry.

And through my tears I look at you and smile.
For I see your father's eyes,
your grandma's nose,
your grandpa's hair.
But look at those lips?
That sweet, precious, cute, little smile--
Definitely your mother's smile!
And I cry.

I hug you, hold you, feel you and touch you.
"Thank you God," I whisper.
As I kiss your soft little face.

For you are a precious gift from God.
You, my darling angel of mine--are a dream come true.

A dream--thank God for dreams....
I awaken from my sleep--
And I cry.
